I’ve been working in architecture for over 15 years. Before founding my own practice, I was an Associate at one of Melbourne’s largest firms, where I led the design of Realm Adelaide, now the tallest tower in Adelaide.
In 2022, I established JDH.A to expand my understanding of what architecture can offer society. The practice operates across multiple scales, with a focus on residential architecture, commercial feasibility, and speculative research. Since its inception, JDH.A has completed more than 20 projects and continues to build a strong portfolio of single and multi-residential work.
My approach is heavily influenced by the writing of W.G. Sebald, particularly his ability to move between memory, travel, and observation. I’m interested in how this translates into architecture, through layered meaning that is both personal and contextually grounded. I strive to make architecture that operates in a similar way, layered, referential, and open-ended. I see myself as both a student and a teacher of history, constantly testing how my ideas sit within the broader continuum of human creativity.
JDH.A is a collaborative practice, and I often work with other architects and consultants on larger projects. But if you engage the practice, you engage me directly. I remain closely involved in every project, from first conversation through to completion, ensuring continuity of thinking, clarity of intent, and a consistent architectural position throughout.
